About
We’re from here.
CanMov was founded by Vancouverites who’ve spent their lives in this city — growing up in its neighbourhoods, learning its weather and its light, watching the East Side change and the West Side hold on to its character. Designing interiors here, for people who live here, is the only thing we’ve ever really wanted to do.
We think a lot about how Vancouver shapes the way people live: long wet winters that push everyone indoors, summers that pull everyone out onto patios and balconies, mountains and water in nearly every sightline. The rooms we design account for that. We choose materials that handle the damp, layouts that catch the light when it shows up, and finishes that feel right whether it’s grey for six weeks straight or sunny by 7 a.m.
Our work happens close to home. Most of our projects sit within a short drive of the studio — Kits, Yaletown, the West End, Mount Pleasant, Strathcona — though we’ll happily head up the Sea-to-Sky or over to the North Shore for the right project. We work with local trades we’ve known for years, source from Lower Mainland makers wherever we can, and try to leave a small footprint in the process.
Most of our clients come to us through someone they already trust — a friend, a neighbour, a contractor we’ve worked with before. That keeps us close to the city and close to the people in it, which is the way we’ve always wanted to work.
How we work
Three things we hold to.
Restraint
Good design is mostly about what you leave out. We work toward rooms that feel composed and quiet — never busy.
Materials
Real wood, stone, linen, wool, plaster. Materials that age well are almost always the right choice — and they almost always feel better, too.
Process
Clear scope, honest pricing, and a single point of contact. Most of our clients come from referrals — we work hard to keep it that way.
